Beware of Energy Vampires By I was talking with a friend recently who was starting a new business, and she had hit a major roadblock. Although she knew she was following her life purpose, the critical comment of one “friend” had totally derailed her. All that she had accomplished toward reaching her new goals was set aside, as she was paralyzed by the way this friend had questioned her motives. This happened to me recently, so I know exactly how she felt.Have you had a similar experience? Has one person’s comments or actions taken your focus off of where you are headed? Why is it that we can have 1,000 positive affirmations, and one negative comment, and that one comment is what we cannot get out of our mind? When that happens, here are some things to consider:Don’t let one person’s opinion take you away from where you are headed. As you are confidently moving forward, stay rooted in your motives, your values and your vision.Seek the wise input from a friend or trusted advisor to affirm your path.Know that the negative reaction to your actions are likely the result of something deeper within the person who said it. What you are doing may have conjured up fear, doubt, or envy that you have no control over. It is her problem, not yours.Don’t spend your precious time and energy worrying about one negative opinion. I call these people “energy vampires,” because they can suck the life right out of you! Surround yourself with people who are uplifting and supportive, and you will be energized, not demoralized.Know your value! Examine your unique gifts and what you bring to the world, and celebrate! There is no one like you, and you are meant to shine. Be brilliant! Don’t let anyone extinguish your light!Susan Tolles, a Certified Christian Life Purpose Coach, is the founder of the coaching and mentoring site flourishover50.com.Share this:
