Do You Strive for A Life without Worry? By There are different forms of worry. Learning how to live without worrying is a simple decision to be made daily and sometimes multiple times in a day. If we break down worry, you can see it is rarely applicable to the present; worry pulls us into the future or rolls us back into the past.My higher power lives in the now and for my higher power it is always the now! Time is a man-made concept. Worry is merely a distraction that our egos use to keep us captive and constantly shaking in our boots. There are many triggers that may cause us to worry. Personal worry would be something like having to exact a plan for the event we wish to take place after pretty good example. To combat worry we need to stay open and flexible and let go of our “plans.”Worry for our families can be stopped when we remember that they have their own path, their own lessons and their very own higher power. They are unique and they have their own unique life lessons and I need not do for them with they can do for themselves if I care more about someone’s life than they do I have crossed the line, and I”m actually doing them a spiritual disservice.I set the tone and the pace of my own spiritual growth with god’s help, not the help of others. I gratefully share what I have experienced and what I’ve come to learn. History may give us some signposts, but each new generation has to relearn exactly the same lessons that the previous generation had to learn! Sadly, history does repeat itself.I was a very compliant and peaceful person during my childhood. Because of that I remained quite gullible and naïve well into my early and late 20s. I question everything these days.I question authority and I question the rules! My questioning the rules and the whys for what happens is a new skill for me, and it has become easier for me and less stressful because I changed the way I think about the rules and the so called status quo. I used to see questioning things as rebellious and even somewhat insulting. Now that I no longer “care” what other people think about me, I see asking questions and gaining clarity as one of the best ways to take care of myself. My worries are dispelled when I ask for details and make more informed decisions.I hardly ever worry now because I am confident that I have the tools and the knowhow to take care of myself. No matter what happens to me or my loved ones I have a process to get rid of expectations and fear and control. Over the years I have developed a connection to my higher power or my highest self and I have come to rely on it. I really love showing others how to find their own personal connection. I am my clients advocate and I support their process. I do not fix them! They get to do that and they have me to account to.Check in with your gut/intuition often and ask questions till you have the clarity you need either to accept a situation or figure out what you need to do to change it. Vagueness is a huge source of worry . Also, procrastination will cost you a huge amount of time and shame and often money too. It”s best to learn to stay where your feet are: in the present. Worrying about a trial appearance or a bill coming due or a test coming up is absolutely worthless. Use your imagination to envision the best possible outcome instead. If you pray, why worry, and if you worry, why pray?Deborah Downey’s experience spans 25 years of recovery in various 12-step programs around the country.
