Holiday Baking Fun with My Kids
Every December, I fondly remember the days when my children were young and we baked holiday desserts together.
At first I did the decorating of the cakes and cookies, but the kids took over as they got older, with delightful results. In fact, we baked and decorated desserts for every holiday throughout the year, including birthdays.
THEY CONTINUE THE TRADITION
Now that my son and daughter are grown, they continue the tradition. That fact warms my heart. My daughter loves to bake with my two precious grandsons, and she often tells me that she “learned from the best”. Aww! As for my son, he once made a fantastic waterfall cake for his birthday when I was visiting him. He brought his girlfriend along with us to the store to buy the requisites sprinkles and frosting, all the while sharing with her tales of our baking sessions while he was growing up. Needless to say, I was deeply touched.
These days, we are a far-flung family and I visit with my kids only a few times a year. But when I do, the baking supplies inevitably come out and we create new masterpieces.
I adore seeing my grandsons with flour on their hands and frosting on their faces, just as I used to love seeing my kids like that.
KITCHEN FUN STANDS OUT AS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MEMORIES
Of all my memories of mothering my kids, the kitchen fun stands out as one of the most wonderful ones. I couldn’t have known at the time that the tradition would continue. I wonder now whether my grandchildren will bake with their own kids one day. I suspect they will!
Happy holidays 2018 to you and yours as you ponder your own memories and make new ones this season!
